No-one enjoys having their teeth removed, but at times it may become unavoidable for reasons such as advanced stage infection, fracture, decay or trauma. Luckily enough, with the wide range of dental implant solutions that we have at Clear Choice Dental, numerous complex issues related to cosmetic dentistry are being treated with ease.
In case you are in a situation where your tooth or teeth must be removed, you can be rest assured that the pain once felt with tooth extraction is a thing of the past. We have an in-house IV sedation setup which you can use if you are anxious about any pain experienced during the procedure. This facility is used for those procedures that may otherwise involve a lot of pain and is commonly used when teeth are removed.
There are two methods for tooth removal:
In this procedure, forceps are used to remove the decayed or diseased tooth. All dentists have experience with this procedure as part of basic dental training.
In this procedure, the gum is raised for exposing the impacted tooth or badly broken tooth. This involves meticulous removal of all the bone that surrounds the tooth so as to facilitate easy removal. Then, the wound is sutured. Dentists who are proficient in minor oral surgery can perform this kind of an extraction within 10 minutes.
When a tooth is extracted, the jaw bone that surrounds the extracted tooth can shrink and wear out. This will result in a compromise on your smile, lip and facial appearance, and cause difficulties with implant placement in the future.
Our dentists will remove teeth ONLY when they feel it is appropriate, and they do so in a very gentle manner through non-invasive methods. In some cases they may also recommend ridge or socket preservation procedures while extracting teeth, which is a minor grafting procedure which reduces bone shrinkage dramatically. Most of the bone shape and volume are preserved during the healing process thereby facilitating optimal gum formation as well as formation of perfect shape for implants.
The socket of a removed tooth is filled with bone graft material and covered by a resorbable membrane.
Extraction and Dental Implant Placement
This removal procedure is probably the one that needs utmost care and skill. Only dentists who are highly experienced and trained in implantology can perform this procedure. During this procedure, the problem teeth are removed in the gentlest possible ways without bringing about any kind of damage to the surrounding bone architecture or gum. The major benefit is that the tissue structure is maintained and the procedure is followed up with a dental implant placement as well as graft procedure to optimize the bone and gum shape. This becomes an extremely important step if the gums are visible when smiling.
In case you are looking to get a tooth removed, or replacing a damaged tooth with a dental implant, we can help! We strongly recommend that you visit one of our dentists before you get your tooth removed as we might be able to suggest other options which may help you avoid having to get a tooth extraction altogether.
Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, we encourage you to discuss these matters with an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
